* EPA: Environmental Protection Agency-is an agency of the United States federal government whose mission is to protect human and environmental health.
* A.S.M.E.: ASME, founded as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach.
* U.L.: Underwriters Laboratories is a safety consulting and certification company headquartered in Northbrook, Illinois. It maintains offices in 46 countries. UL was established in 1894 and has participated in the safety analysis of many of the last century's new technologies, most notably the public adoption of electricity and the drafting of safety standards for electrical devices and components.[
* ISO: The International Organization for Standardization known as ISO, is an international standard-setting body composed of representatives from various national standards organizations.
* TUV: (Technischer Überwachungs-Verein) Literally "Technical Watch-Over Association." A German certifying body involved with product safety for the European community. The "TÜV Rheinland" mark is placed on tested and approved electrical and electronic devices like the UL (Underwriters Laboratory) seal in the U.S.
